Settling in to London Life
01.02.2007 - 10.02.2007
Hi all,
The big news since our last posting is that we both have now found jobs. Di has just finished her first week working as an HR Advisor for the Competition Commission. The Competition Commission is a government department whose job it is to investigate non-competitive practices and mergers by private businesses. Check out
www.competition-commission.org.uk if you are interested. I have accepted a position working as a Mechanical Design Engineer for Vertu. Vertu is a subsidiary of Nokia designing and manufacturing luxury mobile phones. Check out www.vertu.com. This starts on the 19th so I have one more week off to relax.
We are still staying in Putney with Cheyne, Denise and Mike. We have all decided to look for a new flat together. We will probably still look around Putney area as we all like the area though the only draw back with this is that it means another month on an airbed in the lounge. I think we should be ok.
The only new sight we have seen in London is St Pauls Cathedral. We went with Scott as it was going to be one of the last chances to see him as he was flying out to Perth, Australia in a few days. We had a good look through the crypt which had a number of tombs and memorials to historic figures including Admiral Nelson and the Duke of Wellington who are buried there. We attended a midday mass and proceeded to climb to the top of the dome for a fantastic view of the city. The photos below are of Scott and I at the front door, Di at the top with the city in the background, the road below and a view of the dome from the street.
We celebrated Waitangi day by participating in the Waitangi day pub crawl. This is carried out around a part to the Circle tube line. This was quite an experience with everybody bumping into people who they knew from back home. The photos below are of Diana and Denise at one of the stops, one of the tube stops, the street and Scott and Adam.
We are out tonight to a friends of Mikes house party in Fulham. I will let you all know how my first week at work goes and how the flat hunting is going.
Hope you are enjoying the sunshine. it would be great to hear how all of you are going.
