Girls' trip to San Francisco

semi-overcast 20 °C

With credit cards at the ready, sensible shopping/walking shoes packed and considerable space left in the suitcase, Di met her sister, Lara, for a girls long weekend in San Francisco.

Both flights arrived into SFO on schedule and we met at the arrivals terminal before taking the metro to Union Square where, after a short walk, we found our lovely hotel. Our first meal, at Kuleto's Italian restaurant, turned into a booze-up when we discovered the organic cockails! A bottle of red wine with our pasta and Lara tells me she still hasn't managed to drink a glass of wine!

We spent our first of five days shopping in and around Union Square and at my now-favourite stores Nordstrom and Aritzia. We stopped for a late, and well-deserved, lunchbreak before heading back to the hotel to drop our shopping bags and plan the rest of our stay:

Now that I'm writing this so late, I can't remember the exact order of events (apart from the shopping!), but suffice to say that we walked (and cycled) for miles and felt that we had seen a good amount of what San Francisco has to offer, including:

A walk up, and the view from, Coit Tower -

The Fisherman's wharf market, Pier 39, Lombard Street, Haight Ashbury, the Castro and Postcard Row -

On recommendation, we rented bikes and biked over the Golden Gate bridge to Sausalito and Tiburon...

... and, lastly, a visit to Alcatraz:

We had an amazing time even though we both felt we could have spent a lot longer together so we'll now start planning another trip together in 2010/11!
